The STEM Academy was visited by United States Senator, Tim Kaine on April 14th, 2014. During the visit the Senator heard from STEM Academy students about the importance of what they are learning and how it is helping them to further their education and be prepared for high-wage, high-tech careers in Region 2000.
Our STEM Academy is unique in many ways. It is the only regional program among five school divisions, it is housed on the campus of a community college, students are able to earn dual enrollment credits for all classes taken at the STEM Academy, and the students have very unique and different post secondary goals. The STEM Academy is similar to a highway with multiple exit points. Some students will take those credits and apply them towards an Associate’s degree and some will take those credits and apply them towards a Bachelor’s degree.
Here at XLR8, we work together as a team; administration, support staff, students, parents, business partners, school division administration and staff and Central Virginia Community College administration and staff to help ensure the success of the XLR8 STEM Academy.
