XLR8: Lynchburg Regional Governor’s STEM Academy – is the 16th regional Governor’s STEM Academy offering programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (subjects known collectively as “STEM”) for High School Juniors and Seniors in Virginia’s Region 2000/Lynchburg regional area. Located on the campus of Central Virginia Community College – XLR8 offers academic and technical training related to careers in engineering, biotechnology, health science, and cybersecurity.

There are many opportunities to help support the Lynchburg Regional Governor’s STEM Academy and help to provide opportunities for students to attend the STEM Academy, help to provide instructional materials and provide scholarships for students.  We are preparing students in Central Virginia for their futures and to become a part of the workforce of the future here in Central Virginia. 

After six classes of graduates from the STEM Academy, 54% attend post Secondary school here in Central Virginia, 74% attend Post-secondary schools in Virginia, and of those students working full time after graduation from a 2 or 4-year school,  72% are right here in Central Virginia.

STEM Academy Alumni Fund

Be a sponsor of the STEM Academy Alumni fund for your graduating class.  Members of a graduating class will be recognized on the donor wall for a combined donation of $1,000 (only $40) per graduate. This is a great way to say “thank you” and pay it forward!!

Each class donating $1,000 or more will be recognized on the STEM Academy Donor Wall. 

 *Donors of $1,000 or greater will have a donor plaque added to the XLR8 – STEM Academy Donor Board of supporters for display in the Academy year-round.

Annual Corporate Sponsorship

Become an Annual Corporate Sponsor of the XLR8-STEM Academy to help build the Lynchburg regional workforce of the future.  Funding to support the STEM Academy will assist in purchasing necessary supplies and equipment, fund learning opportunities such as student industry field trips, and help support the training and development of high-quality academy faculty.

Gold-  $5,000 and up*

Silver – $1,000 – $4,999*

Bronze –  $0 – $999

 *Donors of $1,000 or greater will have a donor plaque added to the XLR8 – STEM Academy Donor Board of supporters for display in the Academy year-round. 

Acknowledgment of Corporate Sponsorship will be in the XLR8- Lynchburg Regional STEM Academy newsletter, social media channels, and will have an annual posting on the STEM Academy website.  Annual sponsors will also receive recognition at the STEM Academy Graduation Ceremony in May.

STEM Academy SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Be a sponsor of the  STEM Academy Scholarship Fund to support tuition for additional students to attend the STEM Academy. Donors may support the next student on the waitlist, a specific area (engineering, health science or cybersecurity, or a specific locality (Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Lynchburg).
